Blogs need traffic to be successful. Otherwise it’s just an online journal for you and a few stragglers to enjoy.
Not to worry! Optimizing blogs for the search engines is a straightforward and fairly systematic process. You just need a plan and a bit of patience.
#1 Keywords. Optimize your blog domain name and your content for your niche keywords. You can also use tagging on your blog to help reinforce keyword optimization of each post.
Use keywords in your category titles.
Use keywords in the title of each post and throughout the article in a natural way.
Use keyword-rich “alt tags” on your pictures. In general, think of keywords.
#2 Generate links. Link directories, publishing great content people want to link to and participating in social networking will all help generate links to your blog.
Good links mean better SEO. In fact, post links to your blog from your social networking website of choice from time to time to drive traffic and boost SEO rank. (Hint: If you are participating in the Blog Challenge you’re doing this daily!)
#3 Take advantage of plug-ins. WordPress specifically has a number of plug-ins that optimize your blog automatically. The most popular SEO plugin is All-In-One SEO. Like many powerful plugins it’s free – so you have no excuse to not use it!
You’ll also find that some of the modern themes include optimization in their settings.
Other blogging platforms, like Blogger which is owned by Google, also have key SEO tools you can use to optimize your blog.
