Business Is One At A Time

by Jeanette

Rudy's BBQ Austin
We had lunch at Rudy’s today. It’s a great Texas BBQ place with big ole picnic tables outside. Paper towels serve as “napkins” and the condiments are in a box on the table. You can smell the BBQ all through lunch – and if you sit in the right place, you can feel the barbeque, because that’s the pit fireplace. Overall, it’s a great experience – and one of my favorite barbeques.

It was during lunch that I noticed their motto: To become world famous by delighting one customer at a time.

And naturally I thought about how that applies to online business. WE need to be serving one customer at a time, regardless of how many are on our list, how many are coming to our blog or website, how many we sell. Because business comes down to serving one person at a time.

  • So the next time you write a blog post, ask yourself – who is the ONE person I’m talking to?
  • The next time you send an email broadcast, ask – who is the ONE person who is reading this?
  • And the next time you create a product, ask – How can I better explain to ONE person why they need this product?

When you keep the focus on one person at a time, like Rudy’s, you’ll become world-famous!

Marketing With The Herd

by Jeanette

Have you ever seen a herd of horses as they change direction? It’s like watching a wave being blown from one direction to another.

And that’s exactly the image I got this morning as I was checking my email. The “herd” of marketers are touting Product X today. They’ve switched directions away from Product Y – that was the hottest thing since sliced bread last week.

And every week you can watch “the herd” – as they stampede from promoting one product to the next. It’s rather funny to watch – if you’re not being trampled in the stampede!

Too many of us tend toward the Bright Shiny Object syndrome – and find ourselves overloaded with one product after another. Even if we stopped buying we wouldn’t be able to get through all of the “shelfware” we’ve already accumulated!

That’s why I want to help YOU head it off at the pass (in Western talk) with the five questions you need to ask BEFORE you buy any information product.

You can pick up a copy of those five questions on page 4 of the May issue of Online Success News. It’s FREE and it’s waiting for you at OnlineSuccessNews.com

Scheduling Blog Posts

by Jeanette

Obviously the blog posts are coming hot and heavy this week as the 30-Day Blog Challenge wraps up. And those of us in the Mini 7 Challenge are playing catch-up. For example, in my case I needed to write 10 blog posts in 5 days!

After the blog challenge, things go back to “normal.” But what IS normal? There are several schools of thought on posting to your blog, so let’s review the most common models.

As you think it. Many people look upon their blog as a journal – and post accordingly. If there is something they want to share, they do so. If they are busy and don’t have any ideas to share, they don’t. That’s essentially what I’ve been doing for the past few days – posting as the ideas emerge.

Timed release. Under this model, a blog owner releases a new blog post on a schedule. My friend Robert Plank does this very effectively. Every few weeks he releases a new blog post. For at least 3 days before he posts it, he sends email to his lists, telling them it’s coming. Great teasing emails.

I’ve been known to set a reminder on my computer to be sure I rush over to read his post as soon as it’s released. Why? Because he closes comments! He was the first person I know of to do this – and it has worked beautifully for him. Now he closes comments at 100 – and if you want to be part of the first 100, you need to rush over when he posts the new article.

Marketing tool. For many marketers a blog is just another marketing tool. They publish well-planned articles on their blog, promoting their products. There is little interaction on the blog because it’s primarily a one-way communication medium.

So where are you going from here? Which model will you use and how often will you post AFTER the blog challenge? What will be your new Normal?

Perfectionism Is Not Profitable

by Jeanette

For years, I thought that I and everything I did needed to be perfect. After all, my parents had told me I was a “perfect” child. Just because I was over 40 didn’t mean that anything needed to change!

So I’d write an article in less than 30 minutes – then spend 3 days editing it. Even then it would sit on my hard drive for another week or two, just “aging” like a fine wine – as if that would make it even better. Finally, several weeks after my quick 30-minute article was ready, I would submit it to an article distribution service – then sweat for weeks in fear someone might find fault with it.

Of course, I know “no one” else has ever had that experience!

So how much is perfectionsim costing you? After all, if you persist and insist on everything being perfect, it will take you 20 times longer to get the word out about your product; 20 times longer to create the product; and 400 times longer to make a profit! You see, the pain of perfectionism is exponential.

So how do you get over your perfectionism? Share your ideas here and we’ll all conquer this together!

Free Traffic Fast

by Jeanette

The more traffic you have, the bigger your bottom line. Whether you’re launching a new product or just want a quick influx of cash, sometimes you need tons of traffic quickly. Here are 5 fast solutions to drive traffic to your website.

#1 Social media. Social media works quickly particularly if you have a large following on any of the social media sites. You can generate a ton of traffic to your website quickly with a single Tweet. The key is to create attention-grabbing posts that arouse curiosity, make people laugh or stir up a controversy. You want to generate click throughs to your website.

Make the most of your social networking tactics and use technology to get the job done. For example, one StumbleUpon post can be integrated with both Facebook and Twitter profiles so you’re making waves on all three social sites at once.

Build A List Overnight

by Jeanette

You already recognize the importance of building a list. After all, it’s the lifeblood of your business.  So how do you give your list building efforts a boost – literally overnight?

While there are several methods you can use, one of the fastest and easiest ways is by participating in a giveaway event.

A giveaway event is joint venture marketing on steroids. You and hundreds of other marketers all mail to their lists about the event. When participants come to the site they can choose from any of the hundreds of free gifts available.

As a participant you benefit from

  • access to multiple offers that you can pick and choose from.
  • new marketers and experts you might never have met
  • some incredible values – some of the gifts being offered are sold elsewhere for up to $100

To sign up as a participant, click here. (Note that until the giveaway launches on January 1, you’ll see the contributor page only. You can sign up there and just become a member.) For tips on how to maximize a giveaway event, read this article I wrote about another giveaway event.

As a contributor you have the advantage of

  • possibly adding hundreds of new subscribers to your list.
  • gaining visibility among fellow marketers.
  • potentially earning affiliate revenue or the paid special offers in the site.

To sign up as a contributor, click here.

I also prepared two videos to help you maximize your time and money investment as a contributor.

Upgrade Your WordPress Blogs

by Jeanette

Like everyone else, I sigh when the latest “you must upgrade or you’ll die” alert arrives at my blog. After all, this isn’t the only blog I have. I have dozens of blogs, so each time we must upgrade it’s a daunting task. So I’m tempted to just stuff that upgrade notice in the trash can and go about my business.

Don’t do it! There are a number of reasons to upgrade – foremost of which is security. While it takes a while to upgrade your blog (okay, maybe 10 minutes per blog with the new auto-upgrade capability), it takes a LOT longer to rebuild your blog – if you can at all!

This well-written article from WordPress themselves reinforces the need to upgrade when they announce it. So take a deep breath and bite the bullet. You’ll survive online longer!
