Believe it or not, not everyone wants to make money with their blog. Some are simply working to connect with others or to build a brand. However, if your goal is profits there are proven strategies to make it happen.
The most common method for making money with your blog is to promote affiliate products or services. Information-based blogs write educational and informative blog posts about a niche and then combine that information with affiliate marketing tactics like embedding affiliate links in the posts to generate click throughs. In addition to promoting affiliate products, you can use your blog to promote your own products or services.
You can offer coupons and incentives, write copy that links to your sales page or publish advertisements.
You can also offer freebies to build a list and then market to that list.
Finally, in addition to one of the money making methods above, if you have a blog with a large readership, you can sell ad space or make a profit from AdSense-type programs. Advertising revenue can be enough for a blog with a large readership to generate a full time income.

Your right that driving traffic with freebies is a great way to build a list, I strongly believe it’s one of the best ways to build a following all while profiting! Woot.
Though selling ad space aint easy. For small fries like me, not many people will want to pay for a site that gets less than 100 views per day. but it’s like you said, that’s for someone who already gets traffic.
But one way you didn’t mention is selling reviews/articles on your site. Meaning, someone pays you $5 or whatever and you’ll put their article on your site. More or less a paid review 🙂
