Have you ever had the experience of seeing that someone else was named to “The List” for your niche – and find yourself asking “why not me?” After all, you are more qualified. You have done more work. You are more successful. So why weren’t you named to the list?
It has to do with visibility. And visibility is totally within your control. Here are ten things you can do to raise your visibility with the “list” makers.
1. Look around the site that sponsors the list. Determine who they target as their market. And subscribe to their email updates so that you become familiar with their marketing approach.
2. Submit an article to their publication. If they don’t have a link ready to accept publication, contact them and ask if they take outside articles. By being proactive, you’ll immediately get their attention.
3. Advertise in their directory of vendors, resources, or products, if they offer one. You would be surprised at how few paid advertisers many sites have. So you will stand out by making that effort and being willing to establish a paid relationship.
4. Advertise on their site if they allow outside advertisers. Many times a 125 x 125 banner ad is inexpensive. And again, you gain their attention as being one of the people who is paying them. You’re now their customer.
5. Like their articles on Facebook. Each time your name pops up they are reminded of you.
6. Join their Facebook page and contribute to it. By now you seem to be “everywhere” they look.
7. Follow the editor of the site or publication on his/her personal account at Facebook. If you are in the business to business market, you may find LinkedIn a better route.
8. Offer to interview the editor for your list – as a way of introducing her and her expertise to a wider audience.
9. Offer to do a webinar for her list – and sell your product. Naturally, you’ll be introduced to a broader audience and she will earn a commission from it.
10. Continue to submit an article every month or two so that you will stay top of mind.
This ten step plan is designed to bring you onto their radar and keep you there. Plus they will associate you with both freely giving and being willing to pay. And naturally you will have made new contacts and some money along the way.
