Your Table of Contents can be seen as the “sales page” for your book. Having your table of contents easily accessible, both in your digital book and on your website, will encourage more book sales and people will have a clear sense of what your book is about. On Amazon Kindle there is an option for people to view a sample of your book. Typically this will provide them with access to 10% of your book so you want to make the most of this opportunity.

Having a clearly laid out table of contents, that accurately illustrates the key points that your book covers, will attract readers and increase book sales.

When I am researching a topic or looking for a new book I pick up my Kindle eReader and head on over to Amazon to enjoy samples of books that I’m considering purchasing. Viewing book samples allows readers to view the table of contents, experience the author’s writing style, and get a sense of what the book is about.

Having an attractively formatted book is essential as that is another way for you to draw the reader in. Conversely, if your book is not well formatted, it could repel potential buyers. With this in mind, you want to make sure your book is well written and attractively formatted and that you have a compelling table of contents.

It is important to carefully craft your chapter titles and section titles as these are what make up the table of contents. Your table of contents can sell your book for you.

When composing chapter and section titles, use compelling, keyword-rich, phrases to attract your target audience and have them wanting to know more about your book.

While having cute or catchy chapter titles can be fun, you are better off having clear, compelling chapter titles and section titles that draw the reader in and have them wanting more.

When you are considering the purchase of a book, what factors come into play to help you decide whether or not to purchase a book?
