If You Ran The Blog Challenge

By

Okay, yesterday I asked you to share advice with participants in the next Blog Challenge. Now it’s time to advise the next person to run the Blog Challenge.

What would you do differently for the next Blog Challenge?

Would you communicate more frequently or less frequently?

Would you have everyone keep tweeting their articles to the organizer or do something else?

Would you use a central site as we did with Meet Our Members or would you centralize the activity on your own blog?

Would you provide a handbook to participants as they start or would you trickle out the information as we have done this time?

What other ideas do you have to involve more people?

How can we better help new bloggers in particular?

How can we support our more advanced bloggers? Is there a way to highlight many of them – and split the labor?

The next person to run the blog challenge will DEFINITELY appreciate all of the advice you can give!

  1. Maybe do some Skyping Jeanette! getting into some really good conversations with peeps in another 30 day challenge I’m continuing in…
We’re also committing to 10 article submissions in the period. And 10 blog improvements…:-)

    Wow, great topic to discuss!

Jeanette and Connie, it would be wonderful too if you can share your experiences as the Blog Challenge Hosts for the previous two blog challenges.

    - How has the time investment been for you in regards to retweeting everyone’s #blog30 tweets? It seems that that could be a full time job.

    - The only thing that I would do differently is find a way for members to be able to interact more. The M.O.M. site was great for reading the participants profiles, but there was no way to have an interactive conversation aside from on Twitter.

This would take some contemplation to figure out though as we do not want to compromise the interaction or retweeting that is going on on Twitter.

If our blog challenge community is agreeable, I would love to host an upcoming blog challenge (late Summer or early Fall). This has been on my mind for a few months now and finding a way to provide more community interaction and more in depth ways of learning from one another is something that I’ve been developing. It is a rough draft but if you want to take a peek at what I’m thinking of, in relation to providing a platform for additional interaction and community building, feel free to stop by:

One of the missing pieces on that site is the plugin that Jeanette and her team are developing for creating membership profiles and pulling in members’ blog feeds. We got to experience the prototype in action here on M.O.M.

Looking forward to hearing what additional ideas and thoughts our blog challenge participants have to share.
    All the best,
    D’vorah

    Hi Jeanette,

I think that having blog challenge mentors might be a good idea. By the time the next blog challenge comes around, there will be people who have successfully completed two – and their experience shouldn’t be taken lightly! To help with the facilitators of the challenge, it might be useful to have mentors (especially for new bloggers) tweeting to get people to follow new bloggers, help them get followers on networked blogs, check up on them if they havent posted, etc.

As for helping the advanced bloggers, they already know they can post 30 times. So maybe have a way for them to become more active guest bloggers, have specific advanced assignments for them like “create an optin on your blog”, create your pillar article, create a series, learn how to analyze your traffic, etc.

    Hope this helps,
    Gwen

  5. This is a great topic. I would most like to see you Connie host the next one… you’ve done so much with it and I just love the MOM site!

I love Gwen’s idea of mentor bloggers. Those who have done it a few times can volunteer to take a few people under their wing and be their blogging buddy. I did that on my own this last challenge and it was a wonderful feeling to support and encourage a few new comers. It reminds me of having an orientation buddy and college, someone who shows you around and checks in with you. Cool!!

The idea of a blogging handbook sounds great. I am sure there is enough info from your earler questions as well as your webinars that would be great as a PDF resource guide.

I loved that we had a few calls along the way and I hope that would continue again.

I agree It would be great to interact more with the blog challengers but I think that is something we should be encouraged to do on our own. When you form a bond with someone or you really connect set up a phone date to get to know each other better.

Twitter has just been amazing and the main joy for me of this challenge! It has felt so good to be RTed and to get so many comments on my blog. I just love how Twitter was there for us as a tool to support and encourage each other.. it was brilliant!

Great challenge Connie and Jeanette!! Thank you so much for all your hard work and effort!
