My grandson JR is an active Cub Scout. Each year his pack sells popcorn to raise funds for all of their scouting activities. 70% of popcorn sales goes to support local scouting, with 40% of that going directly to J.R.’s unit.
This money pays for the family campout, the pinewood derby, the blue and gold banquet honoring those cub scouts moving to boy scouts, and many more activities for his pack. Cub scouts has helped J.R. understand the meaning of being a productive part of a unit – be it family, den, pack, or community.
He values his time in the pack and has enjoyed participating in the ropes course, learning to camp, earning badges, and winning a prize in last year’s pinewood derby. It has taught his the value of giving back and honoring our heroes, as they did on Memorial Day, when they placed flags on every grave at the Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery. I believe in the values scouting teaches to young men like my grandson as well as other boys nationwide.
Popcorn sales from the cub scouts offers a special advantage. Not only can you enjoy the popcorn for you and your family (we do every year). But you can also order popcorn as a gift for a member of our military. It’s another way that the Scouts are serving.
If you would like to help support J.R. and his pack – or gift a military person – by buying some popcorn or making a donation to support the scouts and our military, please click on this link to begin shopping: Popcorn Sales
Hi Jeanette,
I’ve been on your mailing list for over a year now and I really appreciate this peep into your life. Thanks for sharing about your grandson…he really is super cute!
Have a great weekend!
sharon
Sharon – thank you for telling me that. I rarely insert my personal life into “business” – but maybe I need to loosen up!
Oh my gosh, he looks just like you!! He’s got your mischievous smile. LOL! 🙂
-Lisa
He is so cute! He looks so much like you…I bet he got your brains, too. Lucky guy. Scouting is such a builder of character. I know you are proud of him. Let eat LOTS of popcorn for these guys! If anyone has not tried it, the Scout popcorn is very fresh and makes great holiday gifts!
Thanks, Cynthia – I agree. The first year I bought the popcorn to be a good GrandMom. Then last year we ran out! So I really ordered a bunch this year. It IS good.
I was a Girl Scout and had all girls, so didn’t know a thing about the Cub Scouts. So I’ve been very impressed with the variety of activities they’ve participated in. (Of course, then I could say that was because my daughter is the pack leader – but I’ll save that bragfest for another day!)
Thanks so much for sharing with us! I know just how you feel about those precious little ones! We are blessed women!!
He’s almost as cute as my grandson;) Just kidding; he’s precious, and learning values that will carry him throughout his lifetime. If his pack really wants to earn some money, perhaps they should learn more about affiliate marketing. Who do we know that teaches a class on this?
Connie – I’m thinking maybe you should offer a special badge on salesmanship!
Did you know there is an official “Grandparents Day”? It is the first Sunday after Labor Day. So this year it was Sept 12th. We should all post pictures of our precious grandchildren – just coz they are cute and we love them all.
I love the saying – “We didn’t inherit the earth from our parents, we are caretaking it for our grandchildren!” So we need to be mindful of taking care of both every day.
Thanks for sharing Jeanette 🙂
I love that idea, Lauren! I’ve put it on my promotion calendar for next year – let’s all plan to post our grandkids’ pictures on our blog to honor THEM – without whom we wouldn’t BE grandparents! And for those who aren’t grandparents – we’ll let them borrow ours!
Too cute!
My recent trip to WV and Ohio I got to participate in the Cub Scout costume party night!
And also chose to contribute popcorn to the troops through his group.
I love great opportunities for giving like this! It’s great that the scouts are offering this option.
Thanks for sharing a peak into your family, Jeanette!
Suzanne
Suzanne – Thanks – I’m really glad they have that option for the troops. It fits so well with the other things they do, so that was some good thinking on someone’s part. I love creative ideas!
You’re just as terrific a grandmother as you are a mom to us (i can say that because you’re 6 months older than me…LOL).
Thanks for the opportunity to support JR and thanks for the report.
Terrie
And thank YOU Terrie for your support! He was just thrilled when I told him. So were his Dad and Mom.
He is darling. I can see why you are so proud. Just got home from a week of grandma duty in San Francisco. They grow so fast and are so much fun. I did have to come home to rest up. A four year old has much more energy than this old girl -;)
Yes, we have to pace ourselves. I figure one day with and three days to recover! JR is a BIG reader (he just finished the entire Harry Potter series in less than two months during the school year) but he also plays hockey and soccer. So he has energy and brains to spare! What fun it is to watch them grow and become the people they are!
He’s a cutie Jeanette! Thank you for sharing him with us.
